How “Home” Changed My Life

As I mentioned before, I moved from Manhattan, New York to El Paso, TX. Not only did I move to another place, but I also switched careers. It’s been tough readjusting. Normally, to deal with my problems – I would run, cook, or write. I would even go out, have a drink or hook up. All of those things worked and still do, but one important thing I noticed and forgot to mention is staying at home. Staying at home changed my life. I never knew how much I needed to be at home. This is probably why I enjoyed the pandemic. Lol!

Staying at home change my life because it taught me how to be mindful. I had time to manage my thoughts and I caught up on tasks, bills, goals, etc. Spending time at home help me balance my life at a greater level that I had yet to experience. I recognized this during the pandemic on a deeper level and it helped me become a better CEO. Now as a Former CEO, switching careers – I’ve found new ways to enjoy this new journey.

Things to do at home to make home feel like home:

Decorate your home to make it feel like home for you. Design and decorate in a way that makes you feel comfortable when you’re at home. Make home feel like home.

Get to know your neighbors. If you see your neighbors, say hi, have a conversation and invite them over for coffee (or a drink of your choice). Invite them into your world.

Get to know your neighborhood. Walk around your neighborhood. See what’s or who is around. You may find your next favorite shoe store or for the oldies, your new favorite grocery store. Lol! See what events are happening around you.

Get involved! Volunteer. Get involved with your neighborhood and those in need around you. Give back. Show your support.

Get a pet. Having a pet is just a good idea. Even if it’s just a fish. Have companionship within your home.

Host a housewarming. Welcome yourself into your new place and location. Invite your neighbors and new friends and celebrate you.

Host events at your home welcoming your new neighbors and friends. Making those around you feel important is how to develop good friendships.

Moving to a new place, starting over, or anything new can be exciting and fun. However, it can also be a little stressful because everything is new. There are cons to starting over that many never talk about. The cons come in place when you don’t know anyone, you’re not familiar with the area, and many more things. I have moved several times to an unfamiliar place, not knowing anyone – so I have a lot of experience on this topic. I recently wrote a blog “How To Settle Into A New Country, State, or City” to help with your move. Check it out below.
