Keep it interesting! This is my go-to when I feel the wave of boredom and is in the process of figuring out my next move while realizing how even as a CEO, I’m bored. When I first started my second company, the excitement lasted maybe the first six months. Mainly, because I knew how running a business is going to eventually become and secondly, it was my second company and success was there from the start. While running my first company, the excitement was always there. The enthusiasm was always there. Part of that was due to being heavily involved with my community, being involved with business oriented programs, and being nominated and winning several awards which in return brought a lot of attention to my company. I was busy. This time around, I chose not to be as busy and the reason is I didn’t want Myeka Johnson, INC to be my entire life. My personal life revolved around my first company which caused me to have a pour work-life balance. This time around, I have a great work-life balance but the major con is boredom.

In the past, when I would experience boredom – I would drink, party, and overeat because of my boredom. I mean, I still do those things but I have learned to balance them by not over doing it out of boredom – but for enjoyment. However, I soon discovered that too, brought on more boredom. Then, I became stuck. I started applying for jobs just for the thrill of knowing I could – which eventually ended with companies claiming I was over qualified or giving me the side eye like why do you need to work. I quickly realized that it was more so, the environment and people in my life. It wasn’t boredom. It wasn’t my title, it was what my personality and lifestyle was craving and I wasn’t getting that from New York. Of course New York is great for business. My business. But, it doesn’t mean I needed to be there. I mean, everyone works from home, I can live anywhere, and I’ll still have the same schedule and general income. It was time for something different. It was time for me to keep it interesting. No, this doesn’t mean I have moved out of New York. I live there. Will soon buy there. I just don’t have to be there all of the time. I don’t have to live there full time either.
Now, I am a full-time nomad. I travel the world full time while running my business out of New York. Expanding the company as I go. Being a nomad has its pros and cons – however it was my next great idea for excitement, travel, fun, and career progress all in one.

Let’s start with the CONS of being a Nomad…
#1) A lonely mindset. Many may not understand, accept, or even care about your lifestyle so you will spend a lot of time explaining it to get what you want or need.
#2) You’re constantly working with a twist. Health and finances wise, you need to stay on top of these things because anything could go wrong at anytime. It may not be so easy to do so while constantly on the go.
#3) You’re never stable or have routine. This could be uncomfortable for most people. Especially, those who need stability and routine to function properly.
#4) Resources can be limited due to the misunderstanding of the lifestyle. It can be harder when you lack additional funds to create your own resources.
#5) Traveling is expensive even for a CEO, so you may have to stay in one place for a while to save or make additional money along the way.
#6) Things are constantly running out, breaking, or getting lost. So, you’re constantly replacing things and it can get expensive.
#7) If you aren’t constantly doing some type of exercise, your health will deteriorate fast and that could cause major issue in your future. I still maintain a daily workout routine.

#8) Your excitement could become exhausting and you could feel overstimulated and overwhelmed. Take this journey one day at a time.
#9) You will miss out on your normal things, such as get-togethers, family, normal life things, etc.
#10) No privacy. You rarely get privacy as a nomad because you spend most of your time in public places traveling and working.
#12) You will not have a solid sleeping routine and you wake tired most mornings.
#13) You are constantly traveling, so if you’re not in a hotel, Air BnB, or your car – sleeping may not be an option. You may go a day or so without sleeping. Most public places don’t allow sleeping.
#14) Finding a place to charge your devices is a pain in the ass. Most public places don’t have outlets or have them covered to prevent homeless people from loitering.
#15) The process can be slow at time which could cause boredom and most people would give up.
Here are the PROS of being a Nomad…….
#1) I get to travel on my own dime meeting new people, discovering new places, trying new things everyday.
#2) I’m constantly buying new things to travel with because I only travel with one carry on and a suitcase. Unfortunately, I have to throw many things away constantly.
#3) Dating is still possible.
#4) A relationship is still possible.
#5) Everything is new everyday.
#6) You learn new skills for the future.
#7) You could possibly start an additional business such as a travel company or travel resource company.
#8) You could write a book or guide on the Nomadic lifestyle.
#9) This lifestyle could help you decide where you want to live next if you are deciding to move from where you are in the future.
#10) The idea you could become an intermittent nomad is exciting.
Here are some tips if you are considering this lifestyle:
#1) Maintain a daily workout routine.
#2) Get insurance and the proper coverage just in case.
#3) Have a back up plan just in case you are called back to the office, you lose your job, or your business goes belly up.
#4) Don’t let others judgement thwart you.
#5) Always have extra cash just in case.
#6) Don’t rush the process. Have fun. Enjoy it until your next best thing.
